About Upscale Automation

Upscale Automation is a Windsor-based machine builder and controls engineering firm serving clients across the automotive and general manufacturing sectors. We're a small but growing team that delivers end-to-end automation solutions — from mechanical machine builds through controls design, PLC programming, and on-site commissioning and production support. Our work spans a wide range of machine types and industries, which means every project brings something new.

Position Overview

We're looking for a senior technician who has built machines — not just worked around them. This role is for someone with 5–7+ years of real shop floor experience in a machine builder environment, who can walk into a build, take ownership, and drive it through to completion. Mechanical assembly, electrical wiring, device integration, startup troubleshooting — you've done it all and you don't need someone looking over your shoulder to get it done right.

Why Upscale Automation

You Own the Build

This is a senior role on the shop floor. You'll lead machine builds from first bolt to final sign-off — not assist, not support. Lead.

Real Machines, Real Variety

Every build is different. You'll work across automotive and general manufacturing projects that challenge your skills and keep things fresh.

Competitive Compensation

Pay commensurate with your experience and what you bring to the build. Full-time and contract structures available.

Grow With the Company

We're a small but growing team. Senior people here have real influence — on how builds are done, how the shop runs, and where we go next.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of custom machine builds from mechanical assembly through electrical integration, wiring, and final checkout — with minimal supervision.
Lead electrical installation on new machine builds including panel wiring, device terminations, field wiring, and harness routing.
Perform I/O checkout, device verification, sensor setup, and pre-startup validation on completed machine assemblies.
Drive machine startup and commissioning activities alongside controls engineers, identifying and resolving mechanical and electrical issues on the fly.
Read, interpret, and redline mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams throughout the build process.
Troubleshoot machine faults, wiring issues, and integration problems during build, startup, and production support phases.
Support customer site installations, machine runoffs, and field commissioning as required.
Mentor junior technicians and apprentices on build practices, safety, and workmanship standards.
Maintain a high standard of build quality, organization, and safety across all shop and field work.

Qualifications

5–7+ years of hands-on experience in custom machine building, industrial automation, or electromechanical assembly.
Proven ability to lead machine builds end-to-end — from mechanical fit-up and wiring through startup and customer acceptance.
Strong electrical skills including panel wiring, terminations, field device installation, and schematic reading.
Solid mechanical aptitude — comfortable with fabrication fit-up, assembly, alignment, and mechanical integration.
Experience working in a machine builder, OEM, or custom automation shop environment.
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, mechanical prints, and P&IDs.
Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer sites for installation and commissioning as needed.
